Crispy Beef Orzo

October 28, 2021

This delicious twist on meat and orzo can be served as a main dish or appetizer. For an appetizer, keep the beef and orzo separate and plate them together before serving.

Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients:

Beef:

1 lb. pepper steak

Salt to taste

Garlic powder to taste

¾ cup cornstarch

Oil for frying

Sauce:

½ cup honey

¼ cup soy sauce

1 frozen garlic cube

1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil

1/8 cup water

Toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Orzo:

1 bag orzo, cooked according to package instructions

1 teaspoon olive oil

Salt to taste

Black pepper to taste

Directions:

Lightly sprinkle the meat with salt and garlic powder, then coat in cornstarch. Let sit for 10 minutes.

In a large saucepan, heat 1 inch of oil. Recoat the meat with cornstarch and shake off the excess starch. Deep-fry on medium heat for 2–3 minutes, taking care not to overcrowd the pan. Remove from pan and drain the extra oil.

In the pan, mix sauce ingredients together and bring to a boil. Add the beef and mix until well combined.

In a bowl, combine orzo ingredients. Toss with the crispy beef.

Serve warm.
