NJ Democratic Official Makes Jokes about Assassinating Trump
November 6, 2020
Chris Emrich, a NJ Democratic official, refused to resign after Fox News published a post-election tweet with a joke he made about assassinating Trump.
Emrich wrote that he would “need a John Wilkes Booth Project.” He was referencing John Wilkes Booth, the man who assassinated Abraham Lincoln back in 1865.
While the Twitter account can only be seen by Emrich’s followers, Fox obtained a transcript of the tweet.
After the news broke, the tweet was condemned by bipartisan New Jersey officials. There were calls for Emrich’s resignation.
Emrich blamed the tweet on stress due to the election. Calling it “a dumb joke” and “not something I’m proud of,” he said he has no plans of resigning from the Democratic committee.
