The Chol Hamoed Trip Guide

October 1, 2020

Just six interminable months ago, the Voice of Lakewood was forced to scrap its biannual trip guide a week before Pesach. As the then-popular joke went, for Chol Hamoed every family was going on a super-exciting tripto the back porch. With the entire world shuttered, packed amusement parks with lines as long as Route Nine, soft-play areas where you meet everyone in your age group who lives in Lakewood, and concerts where the animated audience stands shoulder to shoulder as they sway in song were all things of the past. Under these surreal circumstances, no one had any need for a trip guide.

Bchasdei Hashem, the shadow of fear that colored the world last Pesach has since fadedbut it’s still there. Things are not quite back to normal yet, and you’ll see the strange new world we’ve grown accustomed to reflected in these pages. The trip guide this season is a lot slimmer than it’s been in years past, and you won’t find any concerts here since as super-spreader events, they’re still not allowed. Many of your favorite attractions may still be closed or only operating at a very limited capacity. Masks are required at most indoor venues, and many places will ask you to sign a liability waiver for COVD-19 before entering their premises.

Despite all of this, Chol Hamoed Sukkos 2020 will look a lot different from Chol Hamoed Pesach of last year, and that alone is reason to be grateful.

Please note: We’ve added new COVID-19 regulations to most attractions listed here to help you avoid unpleasant surprises. However, the situation is still fluid and things can change up until the day of your trip. As always, it’s best to call ahead to confirm details before setting out on your trip.

Wishing the entire Lakewood community and all of Klal Yisrael a happy and healthy Yom Tov.
